Five major accolades sealed the creative and innovative course of NIO and firefly, two brands that are game-changers in electric mobility. At this year’s Red Dot Awards, NIO achieved two distinctions, while at the German Brand Awards 2025, it was honoured once and firefly twice. The awards confirm the power of the holistic, user-oriented design that characterizes both brands.
At the Red Dot Awards, NIO ET5 Touring was distinguished in “Product Design – Automobiles and Motorcycles” category. This smart tourer captures NIO’s key principles: pure lines – user friendly – refined design. With its sleek, aerodynamic silhouette, frameless windows, distinctive front, and panoramic glass roof, the NIO ET5 Touring embodies seamless technology, performance, and aesthetics, redefining urban mobility.
In addition, NIO House in Hamburg won a Red Dot Award in the “Interior Architecture and Interior Design” category. This space exemplifies NIO’s commitment to creating experiential environments where the premium brand engages with users and local culture. The location merges contemporary design, local identity, and sustainable materials into a cohesive spatial concept.
“For us, design is not an end in itself. It is a fundamental element of the user experience – from the vehicle to the space,” says Kris Tomasson, Senior Vice President of Design at NIO. “We are delighted that our vision has been recognized by the Red Dot jury.”
At the German Brand Award, NIO was honoured in the “Excellent Brands – Transport & Mobility” category. The brand’s comprehensive concept unites electromobility with a forward-looking, technology- and community-driven brand experience. NIO is no longer limited to the role of advanced electric vehicle manufacturer – it is also the creator of an ecosystem for sustainable mobility.
Double distinction for firefly
Firefly, NIO’s new brand, also received a German Brand Award in the “Excellent Brands – Transport & Mobility” category, consolidating its position as a strong new entry in the market. With electric vehicles that combine high-quality design and intelligent technology, firefly conveys the joy of mobility, independence and individuality. Its identity is communicated emotionally through its design, language, colour palette, and user interactions.
Even more impressive was its emergence as “Newcomer Brand of the Year”, earning the title “Best of Best”, the award’s highest honour. The jury praised the brand’s consistent, expressive, and trendsetting implementation of its corporate identity.
These awards show that we are on the right track,” says Marius Holletzek, Director of Brand Experience Design and Strategy for firefly. “Our goal was to create a new kind of brand experience along the entire individual user journey in this segment – from brand design to the human-machine interface. And all this, unified under one overarching brand idea”
