Porsche expands its range of electric models with a new version of the Taycan
World premiere of the Cross Turismo: the all-rounder among electric sports cars
Stuttgart/Munich. Porsche today presented the Taycan Cross Turismo to the public in a virtual world premiere. The company is expanding its range of all-electric sports cars with the addition of this versatile off-road version, thus continuing its systematic course towards sustainable mobility. Like the sports saloon version of the Taycan, the Taycan Cross Turismo benefits from a pioneering electric drive system with an 800 V architecture. The new, technologically advanced chassis, with its all-wheel-drive system and adaptive air suspension, also ensures uncompromising dynamic characteristics off-road. Thanks to six millimetres of additional rear-seat headroom, as well as a capacity of more than 1,200 litres in the rear luggage compartment, which is accessible through the large fifth door, the Cross Turismo can comfortably claim the title of a true all-rounder.
“In 2019 we sent a strong message by presenting for the first time the first all-electric sports car from our company,” said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, at the world premiere of the new, even more versatile version. “We see ourselves as pioneers of sustainable mobility: by 2025, 50% of all new vehicles we deliver will be electrified, either all-electric or plug-in hybrids. In 2020, one in three vehicles we delivered in Europe had an electric drivetrain. The future belongs to electric mobility. With the Taycan Cross Turismo, we are taking another big step in that direction.”
Full range of Cross Turismo versions from the outset
With the presentation of the Taycan Cross Turismo, four versions will be available. The Performance Battery Plus, with a total capacity of 93.4 kWh, is included as standard on all versions. The available versions are as follows:
- Taycan 4 Cross Turismo with 380 PS, overboost power with Launch Control of 476 PS, 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.1 seconds, top speed of 220 km/h, range (WLTP) of 389 – 456 km.
- Taycan 4S Cross Turismo with 490 PS, overboost power with Launch Control of 571 PS, 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.1 seconds, top speed of 240 km/h, range (WLTP) of 388 – 452 km.
- Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo with 625 PS, overboost power with Launch Control of 680 PS, 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.3 seconds, top speed of 250 km/h, range (WLTP) of 395 – 452 km.
- Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo with 625 PS, overboost power with Launch Control of 761 PS, 0-100 km/h acceleration in 2.9 seconds, top speed of 250 km/h, range (WLTP) of 388 – 419 km.
The high-tech chassis with all-wheel-drive system and adaptive air suspension is included as standard on all four models. With the optional Off-Road package, ground clearance is increased by up to 30 mm. This means that the Cross Turismo can also travel on demanding off-road terrain. With the “Gravel Mode” driving function, which is also included as standard, the new model’s suitability for driving on uneven road surfaces is improved.
In terms of its visual appearance, the Taycan Cross Turismo is close to the Mission E Cross Turismo concept presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2018: its silhouette is defined by the sporty roofline that continues downwards towards the rear – the so-called “flyline”, according to Porsche’s designers. The off-road design elements include wheel arch trims, unique front and rear underbody guards, and side sills. With the Off-Road Design package, special spoilers are added to the Cross Turismo at the corners of the front and rear bumpers, as well as at the ends of the side sills. These elements create an impressive exterior while also providing protection against stone chips.
Sports accessories: new rear rack and Porsche electric bikes
Specifically for the Taycan Cross Turismo, Porsche has developed a new rear rack that can carry up to three bicycles. Thanks to its size and the way it is used, this rack sets new standards. It can be used for bicycles of various types. One of its pioneering features is that, even when loaded, the fifth door can be opened. Porsche is simultaneously presenting two high-quality electric bikes – the eBike Sport and the eBike Cross. With their timeless design, as well as the powerful and environmentally friendly drive system they feature, these bikes are an ideal match for the Taycan Cross Turismo.
Market launch
The Taycan Cross Turismo will be launched on the market in the summer.
A high-tech setting for a high-tech vehicle
The world premiere of the new Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo took place at the Hyperbowl Studio of the Munich Exhibition Centre. This impressive new studio combines the world of films with reality: a curved 270-degree LED wall, 40 metres long and 5.5 metres high, is combined with an LED ceiling, creating a screen surface of 478 square metres with 70 million pixels. The world premiere was broadcast on newstv.porsche.com. It is available to view at this address at any time.
